Blue

I finally joined the ranks of the "find a good deal at the thrift store/spend more on paint than the item" people. And it is surprisingly fun. At first I was going to commission the ultimate thrifty chick to find something for me.. even had the email all typed up.. but then decided to do it myself.. while kinda by myself I had my trusty sidekick with me.

That is rather blue!!!

Because she helped me pick the chair.. modeling it in the store, had her fast hands on the perfect colour, and sanded, painted and was otherwise the right hand girl. She got to be the first to try the chair out.

Derek came out on his scooter to check things out

So what do you think? A bit bright but perfect addition to a photo shoot and to my living room-to-be

Brownies

Well spent the entire gorgeous day behind my computer. Ended that up around 430ish when I swung into culinary mode. We were going to have some special supper to celebrate my dad having his 25th anniversary at work!! Yep that is right 25years of being Magnum Mel. That and my being done school. and well Mom for just being fantastic. ( there was just the three of us for supper.. felt kinda odd) It twas fantastic some grape and strawberries to take the edge off while supper cooked and then nummy supper outside.... minus discovering that the reason the prawns such a good price was because they still had their little legs and skin on.. oh well..

And some good dessert.. the brownies ended up by cupcake brownies because of the reality was that the recipe (read box) was for an 8x8 pan and that we do not have.

A bit more on the purple flower theme.. .. just because they make me happy.
You would need some happiness too if you were writing a paper and if that paper was about the possible injuries to a 4yrold in a car that had a head on collision and then caught fire.

Unknown

MVA, rollover. Unknown male, Unknown age, unconscious at the scene, intubated, soft Blood Pressure. 10minutes out.

That is the report from the flight paramedics phone in. We scramble to prepare: Page trauma team, get blood down from the lab, assign roles- I am the primary assessing nurse. He comes in, verbal report is received as he is transferred to our stretcher and on to our monitors. I assess ABC, has strong radial pulses- blood pressure must be improved. Pupils are fixed- continuing result of the paralyzing agents given during intubation and transport. Blood Sugars are taken, we don’t know if he is a diabetic who may have had a hypoglycemic event causing the accident. We turn him to ensure no posterior injuries. We see another tattoo. The police officer quietly details it into his radio as they search for any way to identify him. We prep for transfer to CT, meds are taken to continue the sedation I hope that he isn’t allergic to them. In CT he becomes restless, I don’t know his name, I can’t calm him. He is reparalyzed. Full body CT is done to assess for injuries as well as any preexisting conditions. He is transferred back to the trauma room where I continue to assess and treat his injuries, labs are drawn to rule in and rule out all possible diagnosis. A few hours later we are reducing the sedation to see if he will wake up. By now we have confirmation on his identity.

As we walk on the floor in the morning the flight paramedics roll by with a stretcher. We gather to help out in the trauma room. As we get report I remark to my instructor.. this must have been the one we heard on the traffic report. (it is amazing how differently I can image the results of the traffic report now.. rather than the backups it is a questioning of How fast? How old? I wonder what hospital they went to?) She is unconscious, on life support, her face evident of the grill of the dump truck that swept her off of his bike. Her injuries are extensive and require many diagnostics and treatments. She spent the day in the trauma room, no room in ICU. Police intermittently coming in and out to ask questions as they sought to identify her. By mid afternoon we have a positive ID and family are into see her approx 5 hours later

One thing I have learned is always be identifiable. Whether it is going for a quick power walk before dinner, or dropping your brother off at work early in the morning (in your pjs). Always carry a piece of ID with you. In doing so you will save your family the struggle of not knowing where you are or you being in hospital by yourself. Family is so important in crisis. The man in the first story was a committing a crime when he was brought to hospital but the first thing he said when he woke up was “can I call my mom”. Family aside the medical care is also affected by knowing who you are. This may sound a bit creepy but by knowing your name we can access your age, allergies, medical history, and contact information. May not sound that important but when you fall and have something as simple as an open fracture of your leg and are allergic to penicillin it will prevent us from giving you Ancef- the first line ortho antibiotic. So use that small pocket in your yoga pants and HAVE ID.

Sunny Summer

Just in and starting on the homework after a absolutely fantastic sunshiney day. Had a horse show this morning and it was actually a dressage show(impossible to find ones not on Sunday) and C.S Lewis and I did two tests!!! yeah we got 66.5 % and 64.4%- sounds bad.. and it kind of was but good enough for a dead last and a first place (out of two.. but the blue ribbon looks good). Dressage is funny that way, I think the top score of the whole show was 77%. But I was happy for a first one.. and they can only get better.

Lewis was a saint, it was his first ever dressage as well, but he used to be on the jumper circuit so is totally chilled in the show environment which is incrediblly relieving because the last time I had him out in public it didn't did not end well such as throwing me, breaking a halter and running down the road not ending well.

I have none of me riding.. for obvious reasons, but our friend Shourt was there so i will have some pics to share soon. Here are some of Trish W. and her adorable horse Petey
Then it was home for some lawn cutting and assorted house things. Ending with the first dinner of the summer outside. The mother is off gallivanting so we had easy but nummy hamburgers and Greek salad.
Have I mentioned how much I love Greek salad. If there was such a thing as tomuchgreeksaladitis I would definitely have it. But since I don't believe in it, and you can have something that you don't believe exists I am doing just fine!!
Sasha was quite depressed that the invisible dog destroyer of fun doesn't let her reach the dinner table!!

Me- "she off to get bred"
Joel-"Why is she getting bread, doesn't she eat kibbles" haha funny, not
Anyway our Sasha is bred and hopefully we will be expecting puppies in 58days!!!

Had a lovely evening doing homework outside. I love summer and doing homework not behind the computer.. well as much as anyone can love doing homework. Its not that I don't like my computer but it is definitely nice to have a break from it. I could not however manage my pictures with out it. I was a late bloomer into digital photography- held out for the film and only got my digital camera last summer, but wow now I could not image life without it!!!.

Sneak peak for Tim and Cheri- had a blast on Saturday. Thanks you guys for letting me harass you!
