MoshPosh

Emily had her first set of swimming lessons this past month. I managed to come to a few of them and remembered my camera with its dead battery for one of them.  Got these before it went kaputz

I have been working fulltime again. however I am just coming off of doing 10 straight shifts assigned to trauma which leaves little for humorous stories of work. Though  I have come to the conclusion that I have a favorite drug for overdoses.  Probably not a good idea to have a favorite but the reality is is that people do drugs and if they do and overdose and come to emergency I prefer that they do it with heroin.  As far as overdoses go if the person is alone and noone can call 911 it is the most deadly for they will stop breathing, but it is also the most treatable if they get emergency help on time and the only downside of the antidote is projectile vomiting but really... whats a little vomit if it means you are alive.
I have a bit of an issue when I am tired of having my mind and mouth connect. I tend to talk faster and sometimes skip words.  A person came in post MCI (motor vehicle incident) with multiple complaints of pain- head, neck, various limbs.  He had a head CT and enough xrays to make him lightup like a Christmas Tree.  He returned to me and was complaining that he had only come in because he had bumped his head and no one seemed to be doing anything about it.  I calmly reassured him to his shock that we were checking everything out and that "we did a CT scan of your head to see if there is anything up there"... oops  forgot the "*wrong* up there".

Back Home

I am home now, the posts shall continue, however lacking West Coast pictures.   Settled back into home and back at work this week.  I had had a bit of uncertainty about returning to work but have realized those were mostly unfounded.

You have heard of different "hat tricks"
The Gordy Howe
  1.   goal
  2.  assist
  3.  fight
The Sidney Crosby
  1.  goal
  2.  assist
  3.  concussion
But have you heard of the Melanie Wubs
  1. Working a minimum of 3 different assignments in one shift
  2. Having a Code Blue or Intubated Patient ( bonus points if they are the same patient because it means the code was successful)
  3. Filling out an Overtime Sheet (bonus points if you can claim >2 hours)
Well in my first 3 shifts back I managed to score 2 hattricks both with bonus points. The black cloud above my head had 8 months to move!!! My first shift back scored the bonus on #1- I know that taking 8 pills at once is traumatic but really.... VFib, give a girl a break.   Shift number 2 I managed to avoid all. And the third shift got bonus points for #3- that 8hr shift morphed into a 13hr one.

We will forget that nonsense and check out an unblogged picture from the West Coast- Coming into Allison Harbour

Fall

Better late then ever.  Here are some pics from Thanksgiving weekend and the last trip of the fall.  I came home the Friday night of thanksgiving in order to hit up the applefarm and pumpkin patch on the Saturday morning with the family
 Picking the perfect one

 Amazing apples
Thanksgiving Day was lovely day of church and a long afternoon in the sunshine at Oma's .  Since when has Thanksgiving day been warm enough for the entire afternoon outside and then coffee after dinner on the porch.  We snuck away for a little family photo shoot.. one of the quickest and crazyiest... but did manage to get a few keepers
This little boy was a terror... not that you can see by his angelic face!!

Love the joy on her face

 Lovely Sister
The last two fall weeks were chilly and cold.  September and the sunshine has spoiled us.  However we did go to Tumbo Island (my most favorite) twice more.
The Long Row in from East Point

 The thistles were dead now

There are a few old abandoned homesteads on the island
 Old wooden boats
 Fall lined paths

And with that the Sailing Season was done.  A wildly differant wonderful season of life finished

Portland Island

Portland Island-  An adventure in which Niki and I camped and relaxed and had our chocolate eaten by racoons.

Headed out to Portland Island for a little one night getaway this weekend.Had a lovely community breakfast in the morning and then Niki and I headed out in the afternoon  The winds were light and it was gorgeous fall weather.  Portland Island is not to far a paddle but slightly isolated enough that your can feel far away.  It is an island that we go ashore occasionally with work but Niki and I camped on the far side where we dont take the kids.

We set up the tent and then headed out to explore the island via the network of trails.  Fall is my favorite season and the dryness of the Gulf Island fully display the best of fall  gorgeous golds and browns, leaves and mushrooms, dried flowers and berries

 Fav photo of the day

The maples all had a wierd fungus that made them pokadotted

We found a trail lined with berries which we picked

Our tent in the trees,  We forgot the fly but that made for great full moon viewing and sunrise!!

Sunrise over Mt. Baker through the tent
Niki was sleeping so I couldn't get out of the tent but here is one where I leaned over her and opened the tent door a wee bit....
