Dad
Summer Week
I have been rather absent last week from bloggerland. It was a busy week, worked 60hrs and had lots other little moments of fantasticness. The week started out great with Sunday Supper up at the lake with Al and Elena and friends having us all up for some delcious supper and games.
Then it was to the grindstone for work.. work while it was extremely busy was super cool and interesting.. like "we're not sure if you have a clot in your heart so before we do this procedure we have to make sure".. so lets just sedate you and put a scope down your throat so we can ultrasound your heart.. soso cool and one of the clearest shots I have ever seen of all the working of the heart that and and just other random interesting sick people. I LOVE my job!!!! this week while we were riding in the back of the ambulance on the way back from RCH (we had left the patient there) Karen and I were talking and it suddenly hit me.. that THIS WAS WORK!!! I never had once imagined that this is what I would be doing as a nurse and how much I would be fascinated by it and love it. Work was most of the week but it didn't stop the hanging out with the brothers, cuddling the puppies and spending time lying on the backyard watching the meteorites!!
Then it was off to whistler for a night with the brothers and Corina. We camped up there, walked the village, went to the waterfall and did MONKIDO!!!! Joel had gone up there with youth group earlier this summer and loved it and Corina and I had done a similar course on the island but derek had never so it was so so much fun. nothing quite like slack lines 60 feet up, ziplines, tarzan ropes, and swinging planks to jack that adrenaline.
Then it was back to work on Sunday. So i have been finishing up my critical care orientation and just have two shifts left.. but on Sunday we were so short that I was on my own in acute one (read minor heart attack when I saw the schedule).Never mind that as Amy and I were driving in to work I had said that I thought I was ready. Thankfully everything went very smoothly and maybe it was a good thing to have the first one unscheduled, less time to get nervous.
(pics are not loading right now.. so may be eta pics later!!)

Fort Ebey
Corina and I headed off for our annual little holiday last week monday. We went down to Fort Ebey, on Whitby Island. Just a short jaunt away but we felt like we were far far away and had such a fantastic relaxing time away.
Setting up Camp- in our nice small 8 man tent. What a difference from last time we went camping together.. that was a nice little ice cave. We could bring a ton more stuff than last time.. which had me wondering about how much makeup one needs to bring when camping with a Mark Kay Consultant!!

Camp all set up.
We went up to the gun battery bluff to watch the sunset
So we headed off to the beach
The lense I had on my camera most of the time does not zoom so we resorted to timer pictures.. this one didn't work so well. I hit the button and then went bounding across rocks and logs and promptly fell backwards off the log we were supposed to be sitting one... only my teeth made it on to the picture.
We went up to the gun battery bluff to watch the sunset
It is all tall wheat style grass and blue blue ocean
There is a concrete bunker on the side of the cliff with a cut away out the side of the bluff
The next day we took the ferry to Port Townstead. On the recommendation of friend (Bonice) we went to check this cute little port town out. It is from the 1860's and is all tall brink buildings with a certain marine feel to it. There was lots of little shops and wooden boats.. wooden kayaks make me drool!!
Rosie I thought of you when I saw this sign for the wool store
The lighthouse at Fort Casey

Got back to the campsite and chilled out and had some chicken ceasar for supper and yes my feet were that black
It was pretty foggy by the coast (about 50meters west of our campsite) but we walked along the bluff trail, high above the ocean to the beach.
The hill side has all these tunnels and storage places where they kept the artillary for the guns during the second world war.
We had butter chicken for supper that night... the package did not have a spice-o-meter on it. WOW, can you say spicy. who needs botox, Melanie Wubs fully supports the use of eating butter chicken to promote red and puffy looking lips.
After our "Hot" supper we rode our bikes to the bluff to watch the sunset. I have to work on my biking while taking pictures!!! tons of fun and soso gorgeous.. the golden colours of the dry grass and the super blue ocean and sky is amazing
Corina was blowing dandylions.. but if you crop some of the pictures she is kissing the invisible man!!
Corina- very excited to watch the sunset
After that sunset we headed back to camp. We borrowed (tried to barter chocolate) some foil from our neighbours (read big motorhome with everything including the kitchen sink). And tried to make banana somthingorrathers - slice banana , stuff with marshmallows and chocolate, wrap in foil and put in fire. They were less than successful but a little good.. all my chocolate and marshmellow stuck the foil so I ate cooked banana.
We went down to the beach to hang out and watch the sunset that night
The next morning we slept in a bit..needed to sleep in abit after Corina set the car alarm off at 3 in the morning moveing our garbage into the car because some creature was eating it , we had showers and after a lovely breakfast of pancakes went to coopville. It was pretty foggy on our side of the island ( the west side) but down in coopville it was nice and sunny. They had a little strip of little cutesy store and a nice pier. Had a delicious cinnamon bun at the Knead and Feed.
There is a store there with the coolest fly screen.. it is all corkscews from wine bottles strung together on fishing line
MMMM pizza pie irons for lunch

The fog burned off at about 4ish. We spent a nice couple of hours reading, napping, braving the waves and sleeping some more until the tide nipped at our toes.

The next morning we packed up and headed home.. Stopping at Deception Pass. We hiked up from the beach and then walked under and around it. My parents got engaged here very long time ago so it was cool to check the spot out.
After the bridge we hit the outlet malls for some books, shoes and scrubs before we headed home.
