two down

So what I did was knock off #99 which is -Sleep in an Igloo. I went winter camping with a bunch of friends last Friday night, that does and will receive its own post with ++ pictures and stories.. But the jist is that Corina and I built a snow igloo and slept in it. Or rather I slept wonderfully and Corina laid there and wished that she slept.

Also was part one of #69 Attend the Olympics. Corina and I spent last Wednesday going thither and fro around Vancouver seeing many of the pavilions, soaking in the atmosphere and having a fantastic time in the sunshine. (pictures of which will soon follow) I also got to become part of the bobsled team. The one sport I would absolutely love to do!! Part 2 of the experience will be in a few weeks when we go the medal games of Paraympic Curling. In preparation for that I am controlling all impulses to change channels when ever curling is on and I am on break at work. I am dutifully trying to understand and learn the basic principles.. but somehow I keep getting distracted by the blue/white/red diamond pj pants that the team from Norway wears.. or maybe its whose wearing them(hehe). oh well I must clamp down on my enthusiasm for clown pants because they play CANADA men's for GOLD tomorrow GO CANADA GO!!!

Sunday Photo

Sorry for no post this week.. what a week it has been, before last evening when I got home from camping I had spent less hours home and awake (at the same time),than what you can count on one hand. It was good though.. worked some great shifts and knocked two things off my 100 things to do in life list. Will tell you all about that later this week. But for now here is a picture.. oh and FANTASTIC news.. Emily said my name for the first time today!!!!!!

Olympics and Stoves

So last night I "took" the night off work.. not really because I right now I am still extra and make my own schedule.. but I wasn't about to miss our Van Oosten Olympic extravaganza. All of us packed Oma's family room with chips and pizza and watched the opening of the Vancouver Winter Olympics. ++noisy, ++ comments on everything from Micheal Jean's outfit, to big discussions on what was light projected and what was actually real (?was the whale spray lights, or actually spray??). I am not a huge fan of every thing the Olympics is and represents nor the blatant humanistic viewpoint but you have to admit that some of it was very beautiful and a real great memory to have with the whole family. It was capped off by delicious INUCKSHUCK cupcakes made by the resident cupcake maker extraordinaire, Elena.

The colour is abit off ( was using dad's camera and didn't know how to adjust it) but they were nice VANOC blue and green.

Even Oma was quite enthralled.

Today I woke up with even a more sore throat and sore chest but that is okay because I have the day off.. So errands (alias for spending ++ money on non visible things like car parts and insurance), homework, nap and some winter camp prep is/was on the agenda. We also picked up Mom's new car. Pics of that to come!!

Played with my new stove (wonderful gift from my aunts/uncles).. up at camp in the snow is not the time to learn how to light it!!. It was a bit of a process but now should be fairly straightforward

Blue

Blue was my insides after having the above pictured cupcakes as part of breakfast.. not on the list of recommended foods.. but however they were for the fun fun baby shower last night!

Blue is and was the colour of my dads office carpet for the past twenty five years.. however there are definite trails in it!! Got another good view of this as I got to have coffee with my dad at work today

Blue was my nose after my ride this afternoon.. it might be a "warm" February but perhaps I should still wear a coat.

Blue was the MP3 player that I used to conduct my own research study this afternoon.
Title: Are the music tastes of horses influenced by age or temperament.

Process: the study was a controlled convineance sample clinical trial.'
Participants. Two horses, both bay, socialized with the same music in their place of habitation; a mix of Praise music and country music. CS Lewis (13yrs old) calm jumper/dressage. And Mishken 8yr old, high spirited dressage/foxhunting.
Methods- Ear buds were held to the horses ears so they could hear it, Two songs were played, Josh Groban's Ava Maria, and a Jesse McCarthney's Beautiful Soul. Their reactions were duly noted.

Results- Lewis- To the classical he lowered his head, closed his eyes and entered a state of relaxation. To the popular pop music he tossed his head and pinned back his ears. Conclusion- As is fitting to his age, and good breeding and in honor of his stately name he prefers classical music

Mishken- To the classical he back hurriedly away from the music source. to the pop music he began to bob his head in time to the music. In realation to his age, and high spirited prefers the pop music.

Limitations- There is limited generalizability to this study due to the small sample size, convenience sampling and lack of a control group.

Blue; the colour of my pants when i showed up for work and got told I was an answer to prayer

Courses

Taking a moment to eat sushi which my mother had suddenly had a craving for.. we must be more alike than sometimes I think because this afternoon I was trying to develop excuses to go and get some!! but once the sushi is gone I have homework to do for my BCIT course. I am trying to get away from taking courses.. Last week i got into a photography course which I am so so excited about. The next day I tried to make a promise to myself not to sign up for anymore courses but was instantly reminded of the 3-5more (TNCC, ACLS, ITLS etc) which are also on my "take in the next year list".. But oh well, one at a time. Anyway back to the photography course I was super thankful for God (and my fast typing skills) which slipped me in before the other 1300 people on the waiting list got into the 120seats that opened up. This course was recommended to me by my friend from church took it and has with the skills learned developed a very successful business , not that i want to start a business but rather learn to take better people pictures and improve my skills and knowledge over all.
Hope you all have a fantastic week.. here are some little girls who if they lived a bit closer would make amazing little models

Pesto reflections

mmmmm sitting here eating crab pesto nummyness!! the world would be a sad sad place without pesto, the child of basil, the brilliance of Italians. .you get the picture.. it it doesn't have sugar as an ingredient things most defiantly need to have pesto!! note to those also considering adding pesto as a food group, gum does have to be the corresponding one because the breath does become a bit deadly!! but as i am here I am also thinking about my day. I worked a good day today but it also brought up in my mind how absolutely blessed I am in my life where I am at, but also the question of what would i be like if something drastically changed. In the ER I see everyone from a 3day old baby whose mom is a bit panicky to 99 yr old ladies who are making jokes about how cute the docs are. But in between these are peoples, individuals who are not thriving on life and it makes me wonder and feel incredibly sad. I wonder what demons the man released from rehab the day before are causing him to drink himself into oblivion the next day. Are they the same ones that caused him to tattoo himself with hideousness from head to toe. but then from where came the impeccable manners when he was coherent enough to talk? And where, where is the family of the little old lady who spent upwards of 6 hours in my area before being transferred. Who was with her as was sick for 24hours, called EHS and came to hospital? Is there no one out there who cares for her. These are just two patients from one morning that really make me stop and wonder how many thousands of people live right outside my door without the social supports, love and family that I take so for granted.

Days of Grace 6:365

1)Honest people who return wallets left in less than intelligent places
2)Usually a tractor for barn chores
3) Sunshine on the day the tractor was broken and it was just the wheelbarrow and me
4) Amazing rides on the best horses, taught by the bestest coach, in the best bestest weather

Sunday Photo (cept its Monday)

Sorry.. yesterday got away from me.. crazy day with everyone and their dog deciding that what better way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon but at their local ER where S and Melanie will be very happy to see you. that sounds like I don't like patients which is not true I LOVE my job it was just a full full day. But here is the picture.. looks like just a few blizzards enjoyed by Corina and I after a fantastic day skiing but more that that they are the end of an era for my good friend. her last shift as a DQ supervisor extraordinaire who has gone one to greener pastures (or rather muddy fields with green trees). Super proud of you!!!
